I must have this!

April 12, 2007

dvdchair.jpg

If you’re like me, and you dream of coming home to a cold beer, a relaxing massage and a good movie, then you will want this chair.

It will give you a massage that differs based on your mood and the type of music you are listening to. It has kneading, tapping, air and vibration massage. It not only massages your back, but your calves, legs and feet.

“Infrared sensors will scan the curvature of your body, detecting the exact acu-points unique to each individual, and added shoulder adjusting”, says the website that sells the product.

It has an integrated DVD player with hi-fi earphones and loudspeakers. It also comes with a multi-function color LCD control panel, that allows you to easily control all of the functions that the chair is capable.

There is also a drink tray.

Like I said in the title, I must have this.

My Top 10 Favorite Goalie Masks

April 12, 2007

I’ve always been fascinated with Goalies, and one of the coolest things about a goalie, is their mask. I remember how excited I was to get my first painted mask. Over the years, there have been several really cool masks, and I’ve decided to put together a Top 10 list of my all-time favorite goalie masks.

10. John Vanbiesbrouck

beezermask02.jpg

His nickname was “Beezer”. In this mask it features the cityscape of New York (the team he played for), and there are little “bee’s” flying around. Get it?

9. Hannu Toivanen

toivonen2.jpg

Toivanen’s mask is a tribute to Denis Lemieux, the goalie in the “Slap Shot” movie. I like how it’s painted to look like he’s wearing the old style mask, by painting ears and hair right onto the helmet.

8. Stephane Fiset

fiset.jpg

It’s a simple design, but I like it. A wall of ice blocks. Very cool.

7. Gilles Gratton

06-gilles-gratton-mask.jpggoaliegratton.jpg

That is one hell of an intense goalie mask. Imagine coming down and shooting on a goalie wearing that?

6. Ed Belfour

belfour.jpg

Belfour got his nickname, “Eddie the Eagle”, because of his mask. He’s used the same design since the early 90′s, and even though I can’t stand Belfour, his mask is a classic.

5. Corey Hirsch

hirsch.jpg

Corey Hirsch was one of my all-time favorite goalies (don’t laugh), and I’ve always loved the mask he used near the end of his Canucks’ career. It pictures the haunted house from the Alfed Hitchcock movie, “Psycho”.

4. Blaine Lacher

bos-lacher.jpg

I almost painted this design on my mask back in the mid-90′s. I loved Blaine Lacher and although this is a crappy picture and doesn’t really show off the mask, it was one of the coolest masks of it’s time.

3. Gerry Cheevers/Steve Shields

cheev1.jpgshieldsmask71.jpg

The original “designed” mask was this awesome Gerry Cheevers creation. He started putting a scar mark on his mask every time a puck hit him in the face, to show what would have happened had he not of been wearing the mask. The second picture above, is of Steve Shield’s mask from a few years back, which is obviously a tribute to Cheevers.

2. Brian Hayward

haywardmask01.jpg

Brian Hayward was one of the first goalies to do this style of mask. I was probably about 8 or 9 years old the first time I saw it, and I remember thinking it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen. I had a huge poster of the mask on my wall for a few years.

1. Andy Moog

moogmask2.jpg

My team has the same color pattern as the Boston Bruins, so I was always interested in what the Bruins goalies would use for equipment. When I saw this paint job, I decided right away that it was the one I wanted on my helmet. It was such a cool design, and it matched our jerseys and color scheme perfectly. I had the mask for nearly 10 years, and after all this time, it’s still my favorite goalie mask.

How dare Jesus drink Coke!

April 12, 2007

From Eye Witness News:

The company’s theme song used to be “I’d like to buy the world a Coke,” but apparently the offer doesn’t apply to Jesus.

Coca-Cola Co. is suing producers of an Italian film titled “7 Km da Gerusalemme” (Seven Kilometers From Jerusalem), that shows Jesus swigging Coke from a can in the desert. Coke said the scene would probably give the soda a bad image. A spokeswoman said, “We are not interested in this kind of product placement.”

So, they don’t want Jesus drinking Coke, cause he gives the product a bad name, but they want this guy promoting their product:

cokegta.jpg

If you’re not sure who that is… that’s the main character of the video game, Grand Theft Auto. GTA is known as one of the most violent games of all time. The point of the game is to drive around a city stealing cars, shooting cops, stomping down women and getting bonus points for running over pedestrians. A cop-killing, women beating criminal for your spokesperson? Hell yes! Freakin’ Jesus drinks a Coke? Lawsuit!

Coke, you are funny.

Wow, what a game

April 12, 2007

sedinsovertime.jpg

Well, that was a long night. The Canucks vs. Dallas playoff game #1 last night finally ended at nearly 1:00am. The game was tied 4-4 after the end of regulation time, and then took another FOUR overtimes before the next goal is scored. To put that in perspective, the Canucks played two full games plus an additional period. They must be dead tired tonight.

A few points I noticed about last night’s game:

- First, Dallas deserved to win the game. The Canucks were the better team in the 1st period, but for the second half of regulation, Dallas was the much better team. The Canucks were horrible in their own end, and I have a huge respect for Dallas after that game. Their forecheck and work ethic is incredible. They are a much harder working team than I expected.

- Marty Turco is like a 3rd defenseman. Wow, can he ever play the puck. His quickness at stopping it and making a great play with it is uncanny. The ‘Nucks have to keep the puck away from him, and try to softly dump it into the corners so Turco can’t play it.

- Dallas did a great job to contain the Sedins during regulation. That had one of the least effective 3 periods that I’ve seen from them all year. But their line was dynamite in the third and fourth OT, and you just knew they were going to eventually put one in. A great goal by Henrik Sedin to win the game. I expected the game to end on a garbage goal, but that was a beauty.

- Markus Naslund played the best game I’ve seen from him in a long, long time. He scored a goal, had an assist, was responsible defensively, and even laid out a few huge hits. This is when he has to shine. He had a horrible regular season, and it’s a clean slate for him now. He can completely redeem himself if he comes out and actually leads this team with games like last night.

- I was shocked to see Kesler back for game 1. He had a pretty great game (or games, rather), and having him back was a huge bonus especially considering both Cooke and Burrows left the game via injury. I really hope they’re back for the next game, as they are two pretty important cogs in the wheel.

- Jan Bulis has a pretty good game. All year, I’ve been down on him. But he played a good, hard game, and created some scoring chances. Jeff Cowan could have been the best player on the Canucks. He kept the energy going ALL night, and his play helped energize the Canucks in overtime, which I think really helped them keep the effort going. He was hitting everything in sight, and you could see how much it was effecting the Stars’ defense. Huge game from Cowan. He impresses me more each and every game.

- Luongo broke a record for most shots faced and saves made for the Canucks. Even though that fourth goal was incredibly weak, he came back and strong and made all the saves he needed to make for the rest of the game.

It was a great game, and I’m tired as hell today, but it was well worth it. The game ended up as the 6th longest game of all time, and the 3rd longest of the modern era (post-Original Six).

I can’t wait for Game #2! Go Canucks!

My Top 12 Favorite Computer Animated Films

April 11, 2007

I’ve always been a huge fan of CGI (or computer animated) films. Most of them have a great story, amazing animation, vibrant colors, and are usually pretty good movies.

This was a hard list to narrow down to only 12, as it could have easily been a top 20 list.

iceage.jpg12. Ice Age

From imdb.com: Set during the Ice Age, a sabertooth tiger, a sloth, and a wooly mammoth find a lost human infant, and they try to return him to his tribe.

Ice Age was a type of CGI film that we hadn’t seen yet, as most had centered around bug’s or toys. The animation isn’t quite up to par with Pixar, but it was good in it’s own right. The squirrel has to be one of the funniest characters I’ve ever seen. Such a great little side story in the movie.

shrek1.jpg11. Shrek

From imdb.com: An ogre, in order to regain his swamp, travels along with an annoying donkey in order to bring a princess to a scheming lord, wishing himself King.

Being ranked 11th doesn’t sound that great, but almost all of these films would rank in my top 50 all-time list. Shrek was an absolutely hilarious and smart film, and I think it’s as much of a film for adults as it is for kids.

overthehedge.jpg10. Over The Hedge

From imdb.com: A scheming raccoon fools a mismatched family of forest creatures into helping him repay a debt of food, by invading the new suburban sprawl that popped up while they were hibernating…and learns a lesson about family himself.

I really liked Over the Hedge. The voices are great, and one of my favorite scenes involves Steve Carell’s character being on Red Bull. This is a great family film, and although it doesn’t have quite as many adult orientated jokes it in, I still found it very enjoyable.

shrek-2.jpg9. Shrek 2

From imbd.com: Princess Fiona’s parents invite her and Shrek to dinner to celebrate her marriage. If only they knew the newlyweds were both ogres.

Shrek 2 was one of the those rare movie, in where the sequel is better than the original. This was in big part to the new stand-out character, “Puss in boots”. Hilarious film. Looking forward to the new upcoming movie, “Shrek the Third”. I’m not sure if it will be able to out-do this one, though.

cars-dvd.jpg8. Cars

From imdb.com: A hot-shot race-car named Lightning McQueen gets waylaid in Radiator Springs, where he finds the true meaning of friendship and family.

I am a huge fan of Pixar films, and I looked forward to this film in a big, big way. I think it managed to live up to my huge expectations. I’m not a Nascar fan, but I still really enjoyed this movie. It’s a really good story, with a good message behind it as well. Great film for kids and adults.

happyfeetmovie.jpg7. Happy Feet

From imdb.com: Into the world of the Emperor Penguins, who find their soul mates through song, a penguin is born who cannot sing. But he can tap dance something fierce!

I loved March of the Penguins, but I liked this animated “adaption” just as much. It has a great story, funny and incredibly cute characters, and the animation is amazing. It was rightfully the winner of the best animated film in 2006.

toy_story1.jpg6. Toy Story

From imdb.com: A cowboy toy is profoundly threatened and jealous when a fancy spaceman toy supplants him as top toy in a boy’s room.

For a film that was made twelve years ago, the fact that the animation is almost up to par with movies made today is simply incredible. This was the first ever CGI film that I saw, and it started my love of them. A great story and something, as a young boy, you always wish would come true.

monstersinc.jpg5. Monsters, Inc.

From imdb.com: Monsters generate their city’s power by scaring children, but they are terribly afraid themselves of being contaminated by children, so when one enters Monstropolis, top scarer Sulley find his world disrupted.

Monster’s, Inc. is almost the forgotten Pixar film. It was popular, but not up with there with some of the other gems such as Toy Story or Finding Nemo. I think it should be. It’s an excellent film, in both writing, animation and voice acting.

toy-story-2.jpg4. Toy Story 2

From imdb.com: When Woody is stolen by a toy collector, Buzz and his friends vow to rescue him, but Woody finds the idea of immortality in a museum tempting.

Another rare achievement, as I found Toy Story 2 to be better than the original. Barely, but I did like it slightly more. The animation improved slightly, and I liked the storyline a little more. Such a great movie, and I can’t believe it’s already 8 years old.

madagascar.jpg3. Madagascar

From imdb.com: Spoiled by their upbringing with no idea what wild life is really like, four animals from New York Central Zoo escape, unwittingly assisted by four absconding penguins, and find themselves in Madagascar, among a bunch of merry lemurs.

Madagascar is the only non-Pixar movie in my top 6. It’s a hilarious film from start to finish, with as much laugh-out-loud moments as any movie I can think of. The penguins are great, Melman was great, and the lemurs were great as well. Such a wonderful film from beginning to end.

incredibles.jpg2. The Incredibles

From imdb.com: A family of undercover superheroes, while trying to live the quiet suburban life, are forced into action to save the world.

Although it is a slight rip-off of the “Fantastic Four” idea, it becomes it’s own film, and does a great job in doing so. I love superhero movies, and I love computer animated films, so the fact that I like this movie is pretty obvious.

finding-nemo.jpg1. Finding Nemo

From imdb.com: A father-son underwater adventure featuring Nemo, a boy clownfish, stolen from his coral reef home. His timid father must then travel to Sydney, and search Sydney Harbour find Nemo.

This is probably the most beautifully colored film I’ve ever seen. The animation is so vibrant and amazing, it’s often used as the sample film to show off big screen TV’s. So yes, it’s a visually appealing film, but that’s not what makes this film great. It’s one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen, and to be able to pull off funny with a “G” rating is a unique accomplishment. A great story, Finding Nemo is the complete package for not only a CGI film, but any film.

Honerable Mention goes to: Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, The Ant Bully, Open Season, A Bug’s Life, Shark’s Tale and Flushed Away.

Now this is a smart cat

April 10, 2007

From The Daily Mail:

Bus drivers have nicknamed a white cat Macavity after it has started using the No 331 several mornings a week.

The feline, which has a purple collar, gets onto the busy Walsall to Wolverhampton bus at the same stop most mornings – he then jumps off at the next stop 400m down the road, near a fish and chip shop.

cat.jpg

Since January, when the cat first caught the bus he has done it two or three times a week and always gets on and off at the same stops.

Passenger, Paul Brennan, 19, who catches the 331 to work, said: “I first noticed the cat a few weeks ago. At first I thought it had been accompanied by its owner but after the first stop it became quite clear he was on his own.

Pretty cool story.

Frogs + Spiders = a tasty treat?

April 10, 2007

From Wish-TV.com:

A French hiker who got lost in the jungle of French Guiana for seven weeks is now back home.

Le Parisien newspaper reports the hiker (Loic Pillois) was greeted yesterday by his parents and brother at an airport in southwestern France.

The hiker and his friend became lost while hiking to a tiny village in French Guiana. Media reports say they survived on frogs, beetles and tarantulas for seven weeks as they waited to be rescued.

The hiker eventually made it to the village on Thursday, leaving his friend behind because he was too weak to continue. Helicopters were sent to pick up his friend, who suffered major weight loss and is being treated in a hospital in French Guiana.

The hiker says he’s “tired but happy.” He calls returning home a “huge relief.”

Can you imagine swallowing a nice furry tarantula or a slimy frog… ?

Disgusting.

Remember This… ?

April 10, 2007

pogs.jpgPogs. It’s hard to forget that hugely popular fad that came just as quickly as it left.

I still remember the first time I saw these cool little round cardboard pieces. It was at a hockey card show when I was about 11 or 12, and a vendor had a small selection of them. He told me they were huge in Hawaii, and that he thought they would be coming to Canada sometime soon. He explained the game, and it sounded cool, so I bought a small setup.

A year or so later the boom hit, and pogs were everywhere. The game started in the 1920′s in Hawaii, where people would use milk bottle caps to play the simple game. In the 90′s, they were introduced into the general public, using designs based on pop culture hits, TV characters and even sports stars to sell them.

These were hugely popular in my school, as they even allowed all the kids to use the Gym at lunch hour to play. Pogs were eventually banned at my school (and several all over North America) as older kids were stealing pogs from the younger kids, and it was causing too many fights and problems. That was the main cause to pogs becoming basically extinct.

Either way, it was fun while it lasted, and I’ll always remember my tube filled with various pogs and “slammers”.

NHL Playoffs – Round 1 Predictions

April 9, 2007

Here’s my predictions for the first round of the NHL Playoffs:

The Western Conference…

Detroit Red Wings vs. Calgary Flames

This will be a good battle, and I think Calgary will take it to the Wings pretty good, but in the end, I think Detroit will get past the first round, and win this one in 6 games.

Anaheim Ducks vs. Minnesota Wild

At the start of the year, and most of the way through it, Anaheim was the Stanley Cup favorite. I’m going to go against the grain, and pick Minnesota to win this one. It’ll be a tough series, but I’m going to say Minnesota in 6 games. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least to see Anaheim take it in 4 though. They are a good team, I just think Minnesota has too solid of a team for Anaheim to beat. Also, I think Anaheim’s weakness will be in goal.

Vancouver Canucks vs. Dallas Stars

It will be a good series, but I’m going to go with my team, the Canucks, to take it in 7 games. Dallas is a good team, and we’ll see a lot of 1 goal games in this series, with probably each game being a 1 goal game. There won’t be a lot of scoring, but in the end, I think Luongo will out-do Turco.

Nashville Predators vs. San Jose Sharks

Nashville has a very good team, but they won’t be enough to beat the Sharks. San Jose is as complete as a team as there is in the NHL, and they are just too big and tough for the Preds to defeat. I’m going with San Jose in 5 games.

And the Eastern Conference…

Buffalo Sabres vs. New York Islanders

This is, in my mind, the only for sure series in the playoffs. Buffalo will easily take this one, and I think it’ll be a 4 game sweep.

New Jersey Devils vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

Tampa has an explosive offense, but they will be no match for the Devils. Tampa’s defense and goaltending is so horribly weak, there is no way Marc Denis/Johan Holmqvist will be able to out-play Martin Brodeur. No chance at all. Tampa will probably win one game, but that’s it. Devils in 5.

Atlanta Thrashers vs. New York Rangers

The Rangers have been flying lately, and although, based on regular season points, the Thrashers are the favorites, I’m going with New York (in 6 games) in this one. The Thrashers just aren’t deep enough to win this series.

Ottawa Senators vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh has loads of talent, and they will be a force for years, but I think Ottawa will win this series. It will be very close though, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see The Pens take it, though. Senators do have a good team, and after years of hearing they will win the Cup, people aren’t saying it this year. I, however, think they have a good shot. Ottawa in 6 games.

My Top 10 Favorite Will Smith Movies

April 9, 2007

I enjoyed doing my Denzel Washington Top 10 List, so I’ve decided to do a Top 10 Favorite Will Smith movies as well. Will hasn’t been in nearly the amount of movies (16 to be exact) as Denzel, but I was still able to put together a top 10 quite easily.

This is going to be a top 9 list though, as I haven’t seen “Pursuit of Happyness” yet, but I know it would get into this top 10. So, assuming Pursuit will be somewhere on the list, here’s the top 9…

shark-tale-dvd.jpg9. Shark Tale

From imdb.com: When a son of a gangster shark boss is accidently killed while on the hunt, his would be prey and his vegetarian brother both decide to use the incident to their own advantage.

Ok, it’s an animated film, but Will did a good job as the voice of the main character, Oscar. It’s a pretty funny movie, as there are a lot of good little pop culture jokes that aren’t just for kids. I liked it a lot, and unfortunately it passed by a lot of people’s radars.

hitch.jpg8. Hitch

From imdb.com: While helping his latest client woo the fine lady of his dreams, a professional “date doctor” (Smith) finds game doesn’t quite work on the gossip columnist (Mendes) with whom he’s smitten.

Thanks to having a late-minute open house at our place, I had to leave and find a couple hours to kill. This was the only movie that hadn’t started yet, so I actually went and saw it by myself. It’s pretty embarrassing going to what is essentially a romance film by yourself. It was me, and about 10 couples in the theater, haha. However, I still enjoyed the movie quite a bit. It has it’s cheesy moments, but overall, it’s a pretty funny movie.

men_in_black.jpg7. Men In Black

From imbd.com: Two men who keep an eye on aliens in New York City must try to save the world after the aliens threaten to blow it up.

I didn’t like this film as much as most people, but I still enjoyed it. It was much, much better than the horrible sequel. Men In Black is a pretty good alien movie parody, with lots of hilarious moments.

bad_boys.jpg6. Bad Boys

From imbd.com: Two hip detectives protect a murder witness while investigating a case of stolen heroin.

Bad Boys is a great buddy-cop film. This was essentially Will’s first big studio role, and it helped launch his career in a big way. He and Martin Lawrence are hilarious in this film, and it’s not only a funny movie, but a great action flick as well.

i_robot_ver3.jpg5. I, Robot

From imdb.com: In the year 2035 a techno-phobic cop investigates a crime that may have been perpetrated by a robot, which leads to a larger threat to humanity.

It may not have been critically praised, but I think this is one of Will’s most enjoyable films. It’s simply a fun, fun movie to watch. I’ve seen it several times, and it’s been great each time. Like most Will Smith films, it mixes comedy with action very well.

ali.jpg4. Ali

From imdb.com: A biography of sports legend, Muhammad Ali, from his early days to his days in the ring.

Will Smith was absolutely incredible in his portrayal of the great Muhammad Ali. He was well deserving of his Oscar nomination. Ali helped show that Will is not just an action star, but also one of the most gifted actors around.

enemy_of_the_state.jpg3. Enemy of the State

From imdb.com: A lawyer becomes a target by a corrupt politician and his NSA goons when he accidentally receives key evidence to a serious politically motivated crime.

The top three Will Smith films were the hardest to rank. This is more of a thriller than an action film, and the only actual thriller Smith has been in. It ranks pretty high among my favorite movies. I haven’t seen it for quite a few years, but I just bought it and I am looking forward to seeing it again.

independence-day.jpg2. Independence Day

From imdb.com: The aliens are coming and their goal is to invade and destroy. Fighting superior technology, Man’s best weapon is the will to survive.

Independence Day is often criticized and a lot of people make fun of it, but I really enjoyed it. It’s an incredibly fun movie. No, it isn’t Oscar-worthy, but you’ll be hard pressed to a more enjoyable film. It’s another in a long line of great action/comedies from Mr. Smith.

badboys2.jpg1. Bad Boys II

From imdb.com: Two loose-cannon narcotics cops investigate the flow of Ecstacy into Florida.

I might get some criticism for ranking Bad Boys II first, as most people would probably say the first film was a better movie. I disagree. Bad Boys II is probably my all-time favorite action/comedy. I just love this film. Such an incredibly fun, enjoyable movie.

My Top 10 Favorite Websites

April 9, 2007

Pretty straight-forward list. As you can tell by my list, my interests consist of mainly hockey and movies. If you’d still like to read on anyways, here’s my top 10 favorite websites:

10. OfficePools.com

If you’re in a hockey pool (or football, baseball, etc for that matter), you know of this site. I’ve used it for probably 6-7 years to help organize my hockey pools. Thanks to being in the race for 1st place in our regular season pool, I was constantly visiting this site. (And thankfully, yes, I did end up finishing 1st)

9. J.J. Guerrero’s Canucks’ Hockey Blog

The best Canucks-related blog on the ‘net. During the season, I have to miss a few Canucks’ games because of my own hockey, so this is always the first site I check out in the morning to see how my Canucks faired. Not only does J.J. post Canucks-related results and news stories, he also gives an opinion on how they did that night, while providing his 3-stars as well.

8. PerezHilton.com

As much as everyone pretends to hate them, you can’t help but look at those greasy celeb magazines at the grocery store checkout. PerezHilton is basically the internet version of those. With pages of daily updates on all the celebrity gossip, it may be a guilty pleasure of mine, but it’s an entertaining one. Perez is pretty funny in the way he makes fun of nearly every celebrity out there. The site is always good for a laugh and some time wasting.

7. TVShowsOnDVD.com

I love my TV on DVD, so this is a must-view site for me. This website has daily updates on the latest TV show DVD announcements, release dates and cover images. There are also reviews on several newly released titles. When’s the next season of Sopranos or The O.C. coming out? This site will tell you.

6. GorillaMask.com

This site falls under the category of “entertainment for men”, although women will enjoy it as well. The site posts the best video clips, news stories and blog posts from around the web. Be aware, it’s not family-friendly in any sense, but if you like seeing the latest “shark attacks fisherman” or “skateboarder nuts himself on a pole” videos, then you’ll enjoy this website. They also post tons of great top ten lists, daily “best t-shirts” and more.

5. Zip.ca

They sometimes aggravate me with their delayed shipments, but when it comes to online DVD rentals, there is no better Canadian-based site than Zip.ca. For an average of $2.50 per DVD, you can rent almost as many DVD’s a month as you’ll want. It’s much better than paying up to $6.00 at your local Blockbuster or Rogers for a movie. Their database of titles is as extensive as it gets, having almost anything you could want.

4. Spector’s Trade Rumors

Every hockey fan loves to hear a good trade rumor, and Spector’s is the place to go for them. He doesn’t report the silly rumors and trade happenings, but he posts what the legitimate reporters from around the world are saying about their respective teams, while giving his opinion on their validity. It’s long been one of my favorite sites.

3. The Internet Movie Database

It is the website for movie fanatics. “IMDb”, as it’s commonly known, contains everything you could possibly want or need to know about any movie out there. With cast listings, trivia, box office numbers, goofs and more, it’s a must-read after watching any movie. One of the most well-done websites on the internet, in my opinion.

2. TSN.ca’s NHL Page

They may have their problems with typo’s and being too focused on the Maple Leafs, but it’s still the best and most reliable website for NHL-related news and updates. It’s usually the first website I check out each day.

1. James Mirtle’s Blog

Hockey news is great, but news and opinions are better. Mirtle is one of the most intelligent and respected hockey-bloggers around, and his site ranks #1 for me. I only found out about it less than a year ago, but it’s quickly become my first stop for opinions and views on anything happening in the hockey world. He knows his stuff and while remaining professional and un-biased, he still gives his honest opinion on every issue, every time. My favorite blog and website on the ‘net.

Honerable mention also goes to: YouTube, DVDActive, Flickr, Future Shop Online and Jes Golbez’s Hockey Rants.

A.C. Slater to replace Bob Barker?

April 5, 2007

slater.jpgBob Barker, the famous host of “The Price is Right” is retiring in June of this year. I can’t imagine anyone replacing Bob Barker, as it just wouldn’t be the same show without him. But the show is successful, so of course they are going to continue with a new host.

The producers are currently auditioning new hosts, some of which include “Orange Man” George Hamilton and former “Saved by the Bell” star Mario Lopez.

A.C. Slater as the host of The Price is Right? Maybe he can bring in Kelly Kapowski, Lisa Turtle and Jesse Spano to be the new “Barker’s Beauties”. It’s not like they have anything else to do these days.

Sappy story of the day

April 5, 2007

From Azstarnet:

A Boston terrier named Mickey that disappeared four years ago from his suburban Kansas City backyard was found in Montana and reunited with his owners this week.

Cher Jarosz and her daughter Kari Mitchell thought they had lost Mickey forever – until they received a call from an animal shelter last week 1,100 miles away in Billings, Mont.

A microchip on Mickey helped the Billings Animal Shelter return him.

“Some lady from the public walked in the back door,” said Kristal Ward, office manager at the shelter. “She found the dog running up the street. She tossed him to me, and that’s how it started.”

Ward said she called Avid, a company that makes microchip identification systems, and was given the name of a veterinarian clinic in Lee’s Summit, Mo.

“I called that vet clinic because they were the one that should have a record of that chip,” Ward said. “I gave them the chip number, and the woman kind of started screaming.

“She goes, ‘Oh my God, is that a Boston terrier? Oh my God, it belongs to Kari Mitchell. She used to work here.’”

Ward called Mitchell and confirmed that the dog was Mickey, she said.

After she talked to Mitchell, “Her mother called, and they were just beside themselves,” Ward said.

The family said he looks different and doesn’t remember his name. His teeth show signs of wear and tear.

Only Mickey knows how he wound up in Montana, and that’s fine by Mitchell.

“We’re happy to have him home,” she told KSHB-TV in Kansas City after Mickey caught a flight home. “I just hope whoever was taking care of him, I hope they were just glad he’s home.”

Movie Review: Gunner Palace

April 5, 2007

gunnerpalace.jpgIMDb.com sums the movie’s plot up best, “American soldiers of the 2/3 Field Artillery, a group known as the “Gunners,” tell of their experiences in Baghdad during the Iraq War. Holed up in a bombed out pleasure palace built by Sadaam Hussein, the soldiers endured hostile situations some four months after President George W. Bush declared the end of major combat operations in the country.

It’s a very interesting film, as it gives you a completely different perspective on the war in Iraq. The soldier’s are all so young, and they appear more as kids wearing army gear than hardened men of war. To hear their opinions on what is going on is actually quite sad. They joined the army to feel pride in fighting for their country, but what they are doing is not for their country at all. They are fighting to help the people of Iraq, most of which throw rocks and spit on them.

It was an eye opening documentary. The film was very well done, and it seemed like you were the eye behind the camera, and that you were actually there during everything that was going on. It was a very “first person” experience.

Overall, it was an informative, interesting, and very well put together film.

My Rating: 7.5/10

Most shocking news story I’ve ever read

April 4, 2007

I’m not going to post the entire story up here, as it’s not exactly family friendly, but I will add a link to it. It’s probably the craziest, most shocking story I’ve ever read. Just insane that something like this happens with kids so young.

Anyways, if you’d still like to read the story, you can click here to do so.

Just drop your favorite beverage into the Beer Pager the next time you’re at a crowded party. If you go to the bathroom or start talking to a hottie and forget where you placed your beer, just click the remote control button. The Beer Pager will proudly belch and flash colorful lights so you can easily find your drink.”

But what happens when you get drunk and lose the remote control?

You can buy it here for $24.89 US.

Drinking and Zamboni driving?

April 4, 2007

zamboni.jpgApparently, getting drunk and driving a Zamboni is legal.

From the Star Tribune:

It’s not drunken driving in New Jersey if it involves a Zamboni.

A judge ruled the four-ton ice rink-grooming machines aren’t motor vehicles because they aren’t useable on highways and can’t carry passengers.

Zamboni operator John Peragallo had been charged with drunken driving in 2005 after a fellow employee at the Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown told police the machine was speeding and nearly crashed into the boards.

Police said Peragallo’s blood alcohol level was 0.12 percent. A level of 0.08 is considered legally drunk in New Jersey.

Hmm, now I might actually abide by the “Don’t step onto ice surface until Zamboni driver has finished” signs.
