Losing a puppy sucks, but not this much

April 2, 2007

The saddest day in most child’s lives is the day the beloved family pet passes away. You cry, you’re sad for a few weeks, but eventually you move on. It’s hard on adults too, but again, life goes on.

Well, apparently for this couple, life just wasn’t worth living after “Puppy” passed away.

From News.com.au:

Unable to come to terms with the death of their pet dog, a childless couple in southern India hanged themselves.

The bodies of 67-year-old retired soldier C.N. Madanraj and his wife, Tarabai, 63, were found yesterday in their home in a suburb of Hyderabad.

Police said the childless couple had held a burial ceremony for their dog of 13 years, called Puppy, and hosted a feast for friends before hanging themselves in their bedroom.

“The couple described the grief over their pet dog in the suicide note they left on March 29,” said police inspector V. Anantaiah.

You’d think if you loved your dog so much that you committed suicide when it passed away, you’d have given it a better named than “Puppy”.

  1. wow….
i feel so terrible because i laughed…but honestly…i have never heard of anything so…odd…in my life.

  2. This is pretty crazy. Mandi loved Pepper as much as anyone I know loved a dog. She got through it ok. Maybe it was their age? Pudgy is barely making it through the days right now but we had a lot of good years with her. It will be sad when she goes but I wont need any rope.
