‘The Office’ changing to hour long episodes?

May 1, 2007

office_group.jpgWow, what potentially great news this is. I absolutely LOVE “The Office”. In my mind, it’s the funniest show on television. According to Sea Babble (and thanks to John for finding this), there is a possibility that for next season, The Office will move to hour-long episodes.

I have the first two seasons on DVD, and for each episode there is often about 5-10 minutes of deleted scenes. The deleted scenes are often just as funny as anything that airs, and it really leads me to believe adding an extra 20 minutes of actual film time to each episode wouldn’t be that difficult at all. I really think they could pull it off.

24 episodes, 1 hour each? How awesome would that be?

  1. It would be — in my best Kevin voice — “AWESOME.”

You’re right, Matt — all of those episodes have so many deleted scenes that it wouldn’t be difficult at all to get the extra 20 minutes.

The best thing about that show is how deep the cast is. It’s more than just Michael and Pam and Jim and Dwight. You’ve got Ryan and Kelly, Stanley, Phyllis, Angela, Oscar, Kevin, Creed, and even the warehouse guys, all of whom are great characters.

I so hope this happens. Stuff like this gives me faith that there’s still such a thing as appreciation of truly great television.

  2. question.

    how much would that rule?

  3. That’s awesome. I watch it on a weekly basis (I download the episodes) and to hear that they’re moving to hour long episodes is great news. Thanks for passing on the news Matt.

  4. That would be cooler than bears, beets and Battlestar Galactica.
