Great Movie Quotes: Fight Club

May 2, 2007

I’m going to start what may potentially be a recurring series. I’ve always enjoyed quotes (especially movie quotes), and every once and a while I’m going to post a classic or favorite movie quote of mine. Looking through old movie quotes always makes me want to go and watch that movie again. Here’s a great quote from one of my favorite films, Fight Club.

Tyler Durden: “Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who’ve ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need. We’re the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War’s a spiritual war… our Great Depression is our lives. We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won’t. And we’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off.”

  1. Hey Matt,

I totally love this quote – it’s one of my favourites, too. I haven’t read the book, but I’d be interested to see how close the movie is to the book’s content and story arcs.

    Great first choice!

  2. What a cool feature!
I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the line, “sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken.”
